HOW TO GIVE BACK TO YOUR COMMUNITY
We’re often asked the question of how to give back to your local community. Here are some of our best recommendations!
1. Volunteering
Becoming a volunteer at your local Humane Society or shelter is a rewarding experience for both you and the dogs/cats you’re taking care of. It will undoubtedly leave you with a smile on your face, and you’ll make the shelter animals’ day! Rescues always need volunteers, and any help is greatly appreciated by both the employees and the animals. Also check out local adoption fairs or fundraisers in your area and sign up to help out!
2. Donating
Our company has donated over 15 tons of dog food to our local shelter, The Humane Society of Sarasota County, and we've spent plenty of time playing and socializing with the local pups. Animal shelters can always use support in any way, and a great way to help is by donating food, money, or any supplies the shelter may need!
3. Fostering
If you’re not ready for a long-term commitment, but want to try out having a new pet in your home, fostering an animal is a huge way to gain experience as a pet owner while simultaneously helping out the animal community. Shelters and rescues are almost always overpopulated, and fostering an animal is incredibly beneficial – for both the pets and the shelters. Fostering not only helps socialize a pet, which helps their chances of being adopted, but also allows them to live in a loving home. It also allows shelters to focus more of their time, energy, and supplies on dogs/cats etc. that are in need of the most immediate care. And of course, there are the ever present foster failures, which leads us to our next point:
4. Adopting
Adopting a rescue animal is one of the most rewarding and life-changing things you can do. There’s nothing quite like rescuing an animal in need and giving them their furever home! Volunteering is a great way to get to know the local shelter animals and find the perfect pet for you. If you’re looking for a specific breed of dog, there are endless breed specific rescues – adopting is always an option, even for a specific breed! Share the amazing experience of adopting a pet with your friends – encourage them to adopt, not shop!
5. Fundraising
Fundraising is a great way to spread awareness in your community about animals in need in a fun and exciting way!! There are countless options on how to raise funds – organize a car wash, a run/walk, a bake sale, etc! Coordinate with local businesses and community groups (schools, churches, etc.) to seek some sponsorship and a place to hold your event.
